Counseling for Couples that makes a difference!

Our couples sessions will bring you to the heart of the matter, facilitate great insight into yourself and your partner, and provide you with tools by which to negotiate conflict and grow toward a more loving connection.

Our intention in working with couples is always toward the cultivation of positive relationship and deepening love.  In these sessions we often utilize the Radiant Loving Process. This is a powerful 5 step method that helps you identify some of your repeating arguments and core conflicts in your relationship, then offers a powerful means to shift you from feeling stuck to feeling open and connected to each other.

Our sessions also embody the “Seven Principles of Radiant Loving” which arose from extensive study and experience in couples therapy, our personal relationship journey and the spiritual wisdom traditions .

Many couples benefit tremendously form individual counseling sessions.  They are wanting to work through particular challenges and feel best served with one on one time. We offer all the concepts and tools utilized in the retreats a within individual sessions as well as a powerful opportunity for couples to have our full attention to their work.  We facilitate sessions for couples both individually and together.

"Ruthanne and Louis create a professionally facilitated and sacred-space, within which we feel safe and supported. They are incredibly intuitive, very compassionate and totally focused. The sessions are passionate fun.  There is a liberating atmosphere of dramatic tension as Ruthanne and Louis pass the ball to one another.   We’re never sure what is coming next—but we know it will be 'spot on.  Goal!! .  A true partnership is emerging for us and the joy of our first years together (now some 20 years ago) is re-emerging."

Who Attends Our Retreats?

Though many of the couples who attend our retreats are from the Eugene, Oregon area, we also have  couples who come from other cities and states to attend.  The couples that come to our retreats range in age from 25 to 75. It is not unusual in a retreat for participants to be from couples newly together to couples celebrating 30 or more years of marriage.  This makes for a very rich fabric of experience within our groups. What couples usually find is that no matter their longevity, they share much common ground with each other. We welcome same sex couples.

Couples who attend our retreats and classes are often looking for time and space to connect more lovingly and deeply to each other.  There is already a strong bond of love, but daily living, daily conflict and struggles, stress and difficult communications may cause them to feel less connected than they had when their relationship was new.  They often feel they are missing or have lost something and are looking for a way to rekindle what they know is there.

They are now looking for a way to gain hands on, useful tools to negotiate their day to day relationship and live more harmoniously together.

Often our couples recognize the importance of Spirit in their life. They know that even if they don't practice a particular religious or spiritual path there is something beyond themselves that gives meaning to their life. They may call it something different than everyone else.  They each may call it something different than each other, but they recognize the existence and importance of Spirit.

Our retreats are not religious in any way, although we do hold a strong container of Spirit during the retreat and also invite couples into simple meditations and practices in order to further deepen their connection as couples.  Our retreats are open to couples from all sexual orientations.

We also believe in the importance of fun and humor as an aspect of Spirit and our retreats are known to be both deeply meaningful AND a lot of fun.

We recognize that conflict and resolving conflict is an essential issue in relationship and we address that  in our retreats.  However, our retreats best serve those couples who are not in extremely high conflict with one another. Those in high conflict are initially best be served by individual couples counseling.
